About Our Organization

We believe that all children in California should have access to an Arts education that develops essential life skills.

Through artistic practice at the Davis Arts Center, students will develop a strong work ethic and a respect for materials, process, and subject. Students will be part of a creative community that celebrates the power and reward of close examination of our world, a willingness to engage in self-discovery, flexibility in the face of challenges, and a sense of joy in achievement.

Youth Classes

Family Open Studio

Looking for a place where you can do art with the children you care for? Family Open Studio will give attendees the opportunity to create their own artwork and crafts! Experiment with an array of different art materials, such as paint, oil pastels, and recycled materials. (An adult must attend with at least one child, and children must attend with an adult.) Supplies will be available to let your creative imagination run wild!

Recommended children’s age: 5-adult

Price: $15 per person/attendee
Adult attendance required

Painting & Drawing for Kids

What do many artists have in common? Find out in this weekly class. Students will develop art skills and a portfolio through play, practice, experiments and investigation. Learn the painting and drawing habits artists use every day to get their work out of their heads and into the world. Each session is a new combination of art projects. (Materials included)

An individualized weaving class for all ages and skill levels. Beginners learn to produce simple weaving projects while becoming familiar with basic weaving terminology and techniques. More experienced students will work at perfecting their technique, using more complex looms and patterns with less step-by-step direction. Since there are many items to be made, classes may be taken more than once. Taught by Verena Borton. (Materials included)

Ceramics for Teens: Wheel Throwing

Ever want to try your hand at the potter’s wheel? Learn the basic techniques of wheel throwing, learning to produce basic projects while becoming familiar with the terminology and techniques of clay. The small class size allows for personal attention from the instructor to foster success. This is an introductory wheel class, designed for students unfamiliar with wheel throwing. Are you an experienced potter or currently enrolled in a Davis Arts Center ceramics class and want studio time? Register for Ceramics Open Studio to practice and develop wheel throwing skills. This is not an introductory class. Price includes 2-hours of studio time, access to the wheel, tools and materials.
